Manchester United have made enquiries about a stunning swoop for Manchester City full-back Rayan Ait-Nouri.
Michael Carrick’s team made eleventh-hour deadline day contact with City regarding a potential transfer for the left-back, but the Blues are refusing to entertain any approach and the Algeria international will remain at the Etihad.
The 25-year-old only arrived at City last summer in a £36million switch from Wolves and despite his limited game time, the Blues showed zero interest in parting ways with the defender, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Ait-Nouri has turned out 31 times for City since his Etihad arrival, though injuries and the Africa Cup of Nations prevented him from securing a consistent place in the starting XI.
Nico O’Reilly cemented his status as City’s preferred left-back option and excelled in the role, while Josko Gvardiol has featured in the opening two fixtures of this campaign in that spot with O’Reilly deployed in midfield.
United are desperate to bolster their left-back options with Luke Shaw representing their sole recognised senior choice in that area.
Carrick’s outfit have been exploring temporary solutions at left-back after accepting they stood no realistic prospect of landing primary target Lewis Hall from Newcastle this summer.
They have dismissed pursuing 19-year-old Jorge Salinas, despite holding the Spanish prospect in high regard. He carries a €16m [£13.7m] release clause but United made no attempt to secure his services on deadline day.
They have recently made enquiries about Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde, but United were solely interested in a loan deal, while the Catalan giants were eager to sell the 22-year-old.
