A woman who was diagnosed with skin cancer at just 36 has created her own high-protection sunscreen range after becoming frustrated with products that felt thick, sticky and uncomfortable on the skin. Frances van der Velden set out to develop an SPF that people would “actually want to apply” every day, leading to the creation of Australian brand Airyday.

The brand has since created its SPF Wardrobe, a collection of SPF50+ formulas designed to suit different skin types and texture preferences. Whether you prefer a radiant finish, a blurring effect or an SPF that feels virtually invisible on the skin, there’s a formula designed to slot easily into your daily routine.

One of its bestsellers is the award-winning Golden Glow SPF50+ Dreamscreen, which costs £39 and has racked up more than 1,400 reviews. Combining SPF50+ protection with a primer, the formula has a subtle golden tint designed to leave skin looking naturally radiant and bronzed.

A sun-kissed complexion can also be a real confidence booster, with many people liking the way their skin looks with a touch of colour. That makes a product that combines a bronzed glow with high-level SPF protection particularly appealing, giving shoppers the look they want without having to rely on unprotected sun exposure.

Perfect for bare-faced days, the Golden Glow SPF50+ Dreamscreen delivers a luminous, sheer satin texture for a ‘just back from vacation’ look, or can be layered beneath cosmetics as a brightening primer.

Golden Glow gives skin an instant sun-kissed, luminous finish with a sheer golden tint that warms and perfects without looking like foundation.

Despite its golden tone, Airyday claims it’s formulated to complement all complexions, though Pearl Glow and Bronze Glow alternatives are also available, allowing beauty enthusiasts to discover their ideal match. What distinguishes this from other SPF-infused primers is that Airyday’s formulation prioritises sun protection first, with beauty benefits serving as an extra perk, reports the Mirror.

Many brands don’t make SPF a priority, meaning people often don’t apply enough to get the protection they need. Airyday’s Golden Glow delivers SPF50+ broad-spectrum UVA and UVB coverage and claims to remain water resistant for up to 40 minutes.

It’s also brimming with skin-nourishing ingredients like niacinamide, recognised for its brightening and skin-supporting qualities, plus vegan collagen to help maintain hydration and elasticity. Hyaluronic acid works to hydrate and plump the skin’s appearance, while vitamins C, E and F are incorporated to strengthen the skin barrier, boost moisture and create a more uniform-looking complexion.

There’s also Blue Oleoactif, a plant-derived active formulated to help shield against urban pollution and blue light damage. Elsewhere, the Supergoop! Glowscreen Sunscreen Sunrise SPF 30 PA+++ with Hyaluronic Acid + Niacinamide is available at Sephora.

Usually £32, it’s currently £27.38 and comes in four shades, though it doesn’t offer as high UV protection as Airyday. Elsewhere, at Cult Beauty, the Kosas DreamBeam Sunscreen SPF 30 40ml was £37 but is now £29.60 is enriched with peptides to hydrate, plump and brighten and ceramides to visibly brighten and smooth.

Airyday’s Golden Glow boasts more than 1,400 reviews, achieving an impressive overall rating of 4.9 stars. One customer gushed: “I wear this every day, it provides a beautiful glow on its own or under makeup. It is light weight and has a beautiful fresh fragrance. Best SPF I have used for my face.”

Another raved: “Love this stuff. Leaves my skin glowy and even, and I feel quite smug knowing I’m also protected by the sun without having to layer another product on.”

And it’s not only younger customers who are smitten. One woman over 65 revealed she had bought Golden Glow multiple times because she applies it daily throughout the year. She continued: “It gives my sensitive skin a lovely healthy glow and protects against the elements, will be a constant as part of my skincare routine.”

“Not one to write a review but this is a game changer so couldn’t not share,” another penned. “Perfect makeup base. Tried so many, none of them rate, but this. Obsessed. Buy it right now. ASAP.”

The product boasts a champagne and peony fragrance, and while numerous customers have raved about the scent, one shopper found it rather overwhelming.

They remarked: “I love everything about this Dreamscreen apart from the smell. This has everything I want from an SPF which is high factor 50, broad spectrum, a lovely non greasy but dewy finish and a light sheer golden glow. What makes this even more special is that although there is a tint to it I can still put the same safe amount of sunscreen on. So although I don’t like the smell, I will put up with it because it’s all I have ever wanted from sun protection for my face.”

Another customer declared it ‘by far the best face sunscreen I’ve used’, adding: “Goes on easily, evens my skin tone and doesn’t make me breakout. I’ll be a repeat customer.”

One more commented: “I’ve always hated wearing sunscreen because it feels sticky and heavy but I actually want to apply this. Airyday is light and leaves your skin with a beautiful, moisturised glow.”

If Golden Glow doesn’t quite hit the mark for you, there are several other SPF50+ alternatives worth considering. For those who fancy a more velvety texture, Mineral Mousse SPF50+ (£39) offers a featherlight mousse consistency with a blurring, velvet-matte finish, making it especially suitable for oily and combination skin types.

For those with sensitive, reactive or acne-prone skin, Pretty in Zinc SPF50+ (£39) offers a breathable mineral formula with a soft-blurring, second-skin finish. Meanwhile, anyone seeking completely invisible sun protection can opt for Clear As Day SPF50+ (£39), a weightless invisible gel that melts seamlessly into skin, delivering a hydrated, dewy finish that’s especially perfect for dry and dehydrated complexions.
