Strictly‘s Katya Jones has landed herself in hot water with BBC bosses as she’s accused of flouting rules.

The Russian dancer, 37, has been warned about being seen to cash in on her Strictly fame for her own personal gain.

On Monday, she posted a social media advert for Magic.fit, which sells an AI-powered ‘smart mirror’ promising personalised workouts.

She’s partnered with the company to create her own dance programme, where customers can be ‘Strictly trained in the comfort of your own home.’

However, the BBC chiefs have stepped in because she has used her role on the dance show to flog the mirror.

The advert begins with the dancer asking: ‘Ever wondered what it’s like to train with a Strictly professional?’

She then shows off the product, which claims to track users as they exercise while giving feedback on their movements.

Now insiders say that the move has raised eyebrows at the BBC because stars are not permitted to commercially exploit BBC programmes for personal gain.

A source told The Sun: ‘There is no problem with Katya having commercial deals, but there are strict rules around using Strictly and the BBC brand to make money.

‘She was effectively selling people the chance to train with a Strictly professional, at exactly the time Strictly is back on television.

‘She has been reminded of the rules and told she needs to be much more careful.’

Bosses have reportedly asked Katya to edit the video and the related social media copy.

A BBC Studios spokesman told the Daily Mail: ‘We have clear guidelines around Strictly talent’s commercial activities while working with the BBC, and we regularly remind contributors of their obligations in this area.’

It comes after Katya revealed what she really said about Lawrence Robb after the camera panned to her following his performance.

After Lawrence, 34, performed the Paso Doble to Aperture by Harry Styles with his partner Jowita Przystał, viewers noticed Katya turned to new pro Aleksandra Isaeva, and mouthing what they believed was the word ‘fit’.

Ed Balls spoke about the moment on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday and revealed Katya had got in touch with him after he said on the show on Monday ‘it was pretty clear she [Katya] said “he’s fit.”

The host, who was partnered with Katya during his stint in the show back in 2016, said Katya had been in touch.

Ed then told viewers: ‘In my heart of hearts I still think that, but she sent me a WhatsApp and it said “I said fierce”.’

He added: ‘Katya has always told me the unvarnished truth so it must be true.’

On Monday’s show, Ed had said: ‘Knowing Katya, I think she probably said fit.’

His co-host Susanna Reid said: ‘Here we go! It’s confirmed!’

The comment raised eyebrows from fans who had plenty to say on X, such as: ‘Did Katya call Lawrence fit???’ while another joked: ‘Katya looking for another Strictly dalliance.’

While others said: ‘”He’s fit”?’ and ‘Haha Katya mouthing “fit” after Lawrence’s dance’.

Comments also included: ‘What did Katya say?’

‘Did anyone see this with Katya after Lawrence.’

Lawrence earned 20 points in total, after getting a four from Craig, fives from Motsi and Shirley and a six from Anton.

The actor, who plays Mackenzie Boyd on the soap, is in a relationship with West End performer Pamela Blair.

The couple went public with their romance in 2024 at the Bafta Scotland Awards.

The first live show of Strictly Come Dancing was full of twists and turns as the viewers finally warmed to the lineup – previously dubbed the ‘worst ever’ – yet the hosting trio still failed to impress.

YouTuber John Nellis, arguably the least known of the contestants and who doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page, blew the audience away with his Foxtrot to Ordinary by Alex Warren.

Paired with the show’s longest-serving professional Katya the pair topped the leaderboard with a score of 31 and are now the bookies’ favourites to win the show, with Coral giving them odds of 9/4.
