‘Britain should do all it will probably to cease rogue states from threatening our security’
The Daily Star has weighed in on the news that China has been infilitrating universities with ‘spies’ through a fake research organisation in exchange for cash
There have been fears for years about the threat of China and their spies. No-one knows much about the largely secretive state and what their plans are. But what we do know is they are a genuine global superpower who have a massive interest in our confidential material and our tech.
Spies have been infiltrating universities by pretending to be research organisations, offering our top boffins cash in exchange for sensitive information.
Now MI5 has taken the unusual step of warning academics they will be prosecuted if they don’t cut ties with dodgy Chinese investors.
Boffins who don’t comply could be sent to prison for assisting a foreign intelligence service.
It’s pretty sinister stuff. But MI5 wouldn’t make this statement if our national security wasn’t under genuine threat. We need to do all we can to stop rogue states from threatening our safety.
Jail fail an utter farce
Hundreds of prisoners are being let out of jail early today. Not because they are being released on good behaviour. They are getting out to free up space in the cells for those who are even worse than them.
How did we come to this? The prison service shouldn’t be like a hotel company. You can’t tell someone there’s no room because it’s fully booked.
If you commit a crime worthy of prison, you should be sent to prison. End of story. If that means building more jails to cope with this, then so be it. It’s got to be better than dangerous criminals getting a free pass!
