Trump Posts 2 Lengthy Screeds, 1 Short Rant, And Senator’s Purported Cell Number In Daylight Saving Time-Fueled Frenzy
President Donald Trump went on a Truth Social tear on Saturday in a series of posts aimed at Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), even posting what he said was the senator’s cell phone number.
The reason for Trump’s ire was Cotton’s opposition to a bill that would establish permanent daylight saving time, ending the twice-yearly practice of changing the clocks.
“Everybody in Arkansas, Tom Cotton, a friend of mine, is holding up a very important Bill. It’s called, ‘The Sunshine Protection Act,’ or, ‘We Don’t Want to Change Our Clocks Twice a Year Act,’” Trump wrote Saturday morning.

Daylight saving time ends in the autumn, when the clocks “fall back” one hour to standard time. The change shifts an hour of daylight from the evening to the morning. The Sunshine Protection Act, which passed the House in July, would establish daylight saving time year round, meaning the hour of daylight would remain in the evening, rather than the morning hours.
Cotton is a vocal opponent of the bill and objected to fast-tracking a version of it in the Senate last year.
Trump continued his lengthy post by railing against the hassle of changing the clocks, saying, “Nobody wants to spend their precious time running all over the place, turning Clocks back twice a year and, having sunshine in the afternoon is better than early in the morning!”

He ended the post with what he said was Cotton’s cell phone number, urging the people of Arkansas to call him.
Cotton addressed the topic of the bill Saturday afternoon in a response on X.
“No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter,” Cotton wrote. “Arkansans don’t want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I’ll always put Arkansas first.”

The president responded in another Truth Social post, asserting, “If Tom Cotton were putting Arkansas first, he would give them an extra hour of daylight and, more importantly, they wouldn’t have to run all over their houses, farms, work places, and everywhere else, twice a year, having to change their Clocks, and often forgetting to do so.”
Trump went on to say that the bill was loved “by Farmers, Sportsman, and Sports,” and attached a copy of a letter in support of the legislation from PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp.

Not long after, Trump posted yet again on the subject, saying that a “a table full of very distinguished people” had “just told” him that they “HATE, immediately after a mandatory time change, going home at night – and it’s DARK.”

In all, Trump had devoted more than 700 words to the subject as of late Saturday afternoon. Later that evening, he rehashed many of the same points with reporters, railing against the “ridiculous custom” of changing the clocks.

This year, daylight saving time will end on Nov. 1 at 2 a.m.
