Andy Carroll’s BBC intercourse attacker nonetheless getting used to plug ‘soiled dancing’
EXCLUSIVE: Fame Academy dance instructor Kevin Adams still features on Beeb websites despite being jailed for assaulting the England footballer as he slept naked in bed
THE BBC star who sexually assaulted Andy Carroll is still being used to plug ‘dirty dancing’ on one of the broadcaster’s websites seven years on.
The England striker said dance instructor Kevin Adams attacked him as he slept naked in 2019. Carroll woke up and threw him out of the house, knocking him unconscious when he tried to return.
The former Liverpool star revealed the attack in his autobiography Owning It without identifying his abuser. But after learning the culprit is named in court records Carroll confirmed it was Adams – a choreographer who appeared as a coach on BBC1 reality TV star search Fame Academy in 2002 and Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two in 2021.
In November 2023 Adams, now 59, was jailed for 20 months for the sexual assault. Carroll, 37, said it had had a ‘devastating impact on my life’ and he could not stand to see photos of his ‘abuser’.
“I don’t want to keep seeing his face or being reminded of him,” he said. “I’m ready to move forward. Hopefully now I can finally start to put this chapter behind me.”
But several BBC websites were still carrying Adams’ picture on Sunday night.
One – for the BBC’s Sport Academy – included a snap and profile of the shamed star who is described as a ‘former UK and European aerobics champion’.
On it he said he has ‘worked with some of the music industry’s top stars’ and named ‘Paula Abdul, Mariah Carey, The Spice Girls and Steps’.
He went on: “More recently you may have seen me on TV putting the contestants through their paces in Comic Relief Does Fame Academy.
“Now I’m here to get you to strut your stuff!
“Dance is great for keeping fit and having fun. So I’ve put together a few simple moves for you to try out to your favourite track. Just check out my video masterclass and get moving to the beat!”
The webpage features a link entitled: “Want to try some Dirty Dancing?”
That page states: “Want to get active but ball games aren’t for you?
“Fancy getting fit but trackies aren’t your style?
“Well how about strutting your stuff on the dancefloor instead then?”
Adams is also still featured on a separate BBC Fame Academy Tutors’ website which states after ‘leaving theatre school’ he ‘enjoyed performing with the London City Ballet’ and ‘now teaches all styles of dance including street, ballet, jazz, body popping, breakdance, ballroom, salsa, contemporary and even yoga’.
It goes on: “Throughout his career, Kevin has choreographed for some of the biggest names in music including Mariah Carey, The Spice Girls, Victoria Beckham, Cher, Boyzone, Louise Redknapp and Dannii Minogue.
“Kevin has worked on GMTV as a fitness instructor in Inch Loss Island and Inch Loss Beach. He is now a regular presenter on GMTV and presented The Mint on ITV1, ITV2 and ITV Play.
“Kevin ran the London and New York marathons for Macmillan Cancer Relief and is an ambassador for the Cauldwell Charitable Trust.”
A CBBC Newsround site also lists Adams’ showbiz CV.
He has also appeared on BBC’s Top Of The Pops and in Comic Relief charity cash appeals.
Most recently – in 2022 – he featured in a show called Greatest Pop Videos.
The BBC declined to comment on when it was first made aware of his arrest or prosecution, what action it took and if there had been any investigation into his behaviour while working for the broadcaster.
A spokesman declined to say why – in the light of Carroll’s revelations – the websites featuring him were still publicly accessible or if they would be removed.
The spokesman said: “It would be inaccurate to report that he currently works for BBC.”
Adams’ representative had not responded to a request for comment.
