Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are planning to offer a grovelling apology to the Royal Family over their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, according to a new report. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sent shockwaves through the monarchy back in 2021 after stepping down as senior royals and fleeing to America.

During a sit-down with the chat show host in March of the same year, Meghan claimed an unnamed royal had raised “concerns and conversations” over how dark their son Archie’s skin tone would be before his birth.

The damaging allegation sparked a bitter feud behind palace walls, forcing Prince William to publicly declare to reporters that the royals were “very much not a racist family”.

The couple are now said to be desperate to make amends for the fallout and the pain caused by the allegations, reports the Daily Express.

A source told the newspaper: “Harry and Meghan have always known since they decided to return to the UK that they would need to eat humble pie.

“Their one big regret about leaving the royal family for the US was their interview with Oprah, and Meghan knows her biggest mistake was her claim that a royal family member had discussed Archie’s skin colour.

“Harry was angry with his family at the time, and backed Meghan up, but they now realise what a low blow it was. They both know they’re hot-headed and realise they took things too far, and they should have kept quiet.

“They want to focus on the future, and are hoping that will include a reconciliation at some point. They really want a sit-down so they can address what they said, and Meghan will apologise.”

The source said the couple are “feeling optimistic about being back in the UK” and hope Archie and Lilibet can build a relationship with their cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Despite Harry and Meghan bringing their children to meet King Charles at Highgrove, brothers Harry and William are believed to have been estranged since 2022.

Although they both attended King Charles’s Coronation in 2023 and the funeral of their uncle Lord Robert Fellowes in 2024, the warring pair reportedly refused to speak or even acknowledge each other.

Initial rumours suggested the Sussexes were plotting another televised tell-all to say sorry, but a spokesperson confirmed no TV apology is in the works and that private family matters will stay behind closed doors.

It comes as the couple attempt to lie low as they adjust to life in the Cotswolds, with strict orders to keep cameras at bay.

The source added: “Meghan is making a real effort to lay low and integrate herself with the locals. Their priority is making sure they stay out of the spotlight, and they don’t want any cameras ruining any chance of smoothing things over with his family.”
