A man has been arrested at a major airport after reportedly trying to open a plane’s door mid-flight, forcing crew and passengers to restrain him before landing. The horror unfolded on a Lufthansa flight from Bogotá to Frankfurt.

The 33-year-old passenger allegedly stood up from his seat and shook one of the emergency doors. According to police, the crew asked the man to stop shaking the aircraft door.

However, the man is said to have ignored instructions to the point where cabin crew had to physically pull him away, reports Bild. The situation on board the Boeing 787 escalated when two passengers had to get involved to restrain the man.

They eventually managed to get the man away from the door and the flight was able to continue as scheduled, according to Lufthansa.

Upon landing in Frankfurt, the man was arrested. He was detained on suspicion of endangering air traffic. A police spokesperson said: “Due to his condition, the man was taken to a nearby psychiatric hospital.”
