An EasyJet flight from Cyprus to Scotland was forced to make an emergency diversion due to a mid-air incident
An EasyJet flight travelling from Cyprus to Scotland was forced to declare an emergency due to a medical incident onboard. Flight US3170 had to make an urgent diversion to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on Tuesday evening while en route from Larnaca to Glasgow.
Reports suggest that around four hours into the journey, a passenger experienced a “life-threatening” medical event.
CPR was administered to the passenger onboard the Airbus A320 at an altitude of 38,000 feet.
The pilot declared an emergency and notified Air Traffic Control that an immediate landing was necessary.
As per Airlive.net, the pilot requested priority assistance from air traffic controllers as CPR was being performed in the cabin.
The flight was given top priority and air traffic controllers cleared a direct route to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
The flight crew executed a swift descent before safely touching down on Runway 06, just 22 minutes after issuing the distress signal.
Upon landing, the aircraft was directed straight to Gate D60, where local medical teams promptly boarded the plane to continue CPR and provide emergency medical treatment.
The flight was operated by an Airbus A320, registered as G-EZWL, and had left Larnaca Airport on October 6, heading for Glasgow.
EasyJet has been approached for comment.
