Yorkshire Wildlife Park set to reopen after enclosure incident as replace issued on tiger situation
Yorkshire Wildlife Park is set to reopen on Monday after being closed all weekend following the tragic incident
Yorkshire Wildlife Park has released a significant announcement as the attraction prepares to welcome visitors again following a devastating incident on Saturday which resulted in a man being attacked by one of its tigers. South Yorkshire Police were summoned to the park at approximately 1.35pm on Saturday, October 10, after a man gained access to the tiger enclosure.
The individual sustained severe injuries in the attack and sadly died as a result. In the wake of the incident, the park remained shut throughout the weekend.
Following the tragedy, black barriers were put up around the enclosure and the facility was cleared of all visitors. The Doncaster wildlife destination stayed closed on Sunday.
Based on information from its website, Yorkshire Wildlife Park is scheduled to reopen tomorrow. The timetable currently indicates ‘closed’ for Sunday but shows opening hours of 9.45am on Monday, October 12.
The attraction will stay open until 5pm, with final admission at 3pm. The resumption of operations follows the park’s announcement confirming that the tiger, Altai, will not be destroyed following the incident.
The statement issued on Sunday reads: “We would like to thank everyone who was expressed their concern following yesterday’s tragic incident. Our thoughts and hearfelt sympathies remain with the family and loved ones of the man who sadly lost his life.
“The park will be closed today while the staff team who were deeply affected by events receive specialist support. Many, many people have contacted us about Altai, the tiger. We can reassure everyone that he is safe and well and will not be euthanised as a result of this incident.”
Multiple ambulances and an air ambulance were dispatched to the scene at the time of the incident. South Yorkshire Police confirmed the man’s family have been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers.
