Man Utd flop Harry Maguire’s real name is not actually Harry despite always using it
The first name of Harry Maguire is not really Harry despite the Manchester United defender using it for the entirety of his life.
The England international, 29, was given the full name Jacob Harry Maguire by parents Alan and Zoe in 1993, but has always been referred to as Harry, dropping his real first name. Similar to ex-Manchester City shot-stopper Joe Hart (whose first name is Charles) the decision to utilise his middle name is a preferential choice as no close family members share the first name, Jacob.
Harry’s preference is also not replicated by any of his siblings with brothers Joe, 30, and Laurence, 25, sticking by the name they received from their parents.

Also famously christened ‘Slabhead’ and ‘Dennis the Menace,’ by his footballing teammates, captain Maguire was dropped by Erik ten Hag for the arrival of Liverpool on Monday (August 22) as the Red Devils claimed a first Premier League victory over their arch-rivals since March 2018.
But while Harry watched United’s 2-1 from the sidelines, brothers Joe and Laurence, who have both enjoyed successful careers as central defenders, were in action for respective clubs Sheffield and Chesterfield.

Joe Maguire played the full 90 minutes as Sheffield were defeated 1-0 by Manchester-based side Glossop North End in the FA Cup Preliminary Round. Harry Freedman’s fourth-minute goal means Glossop will now travel to Liversedge for the first stage of four qualifying rounds, before the first round proper kicks off in November.
Meanwhile, Laurence Maguire was introduced as a 90th-minute replacement for Branden Horton in Chesterfield‘s 2-2 draw at Notts County. Paul Cook’s outfit were two goals to the good at Meadow Lane but a quick-fire brace from Matty Langstaff earned the home side a point, as both teams maintained their unbeaten starts to the new National League season.
