Australian tourist in Bali drinks water from a statue in social media prank – ends up in hospital

A young Australian tourist’s social media post has backfired after he uploaded a photo of himself drinking pool water – only to be rushed to hospital shortly after.

Brisbane man Isaac Power on Tuesday was relaxing in a Bali pool on holiday when he snapped an image of a statue holding a hose spraying water into his mouth.

Mr Power shared the photo of the pool prank on the Bail Bogans Facebook page next to another image of himself receiving treatment at a health clinic.

‘Shout-out [to] doctor Ari, he’s still alive,’ Mr Power said in his post.

Hundreds of seasoned Bali travellers commented, some showing sympathy but others heckling Mr Power for his ‘rookie error’ of drinking the water at his resort pool.

‘OMG you drank that haha,’ said a Victorian woman on the page, for Aussies holidaying in Bali.

‘I guess we all go through it: good old Bali belly it’s definitely an experience that’s for sure.’

‘Must be a first time rookie, drinking that Bali water,’ said a Perth man.

An Adelaide mum said her son was ‘violently ill for days’ after drinking pool water in Bali.

‘It was sad to watch.

‘The doctor said bacteria from the pool had done it and so many at our hotel had ear infections. A few days later our pool was green, the pump had stopped working properly.’

Another Victorian man wondered if Mr Power was a Bali ‘first timer’ before offering advice.

‘No. 1 rule: don’t drink the water. No. 2 rule: see rule No. 1,’ he wrote.

‘Never open your mouth to their water, even brushing teeth use bottle water,’ a young Aussie miner clarified.

‘All fun and games until you s*** yourself! Poor bastard,’ said a Perth woman.

Several commenters speculated whether it was worse to drink pool water or tap water in Bali.

‘First rule grasshopper- don’t drink the tap water!’

‘Pool waters ok though right?’ a Kiwi man joked.

A Sydney man said it makes no difference.

‘All the water is fire!’
