Fallout from Glen Waverley Football Club sex act Mad Monday where pub was trashed
A footy club has called an emergency meeting of all players after shocking footage emerged of teammates performing sex acts on each other.
Glen Waverley Football Club players held raucous Mad Monday celebrations at a Melbourne pub on August 14 after their final game.
Patrons said the rowdy group smashed glasses inside and outside the pub, vaped indoors, stole drinks from behind the bar, and danced on tables.
They also clamed bathrooms were damaged and covered in vomit and players were abusive to other customers.
Misbehaviour escalated when one player lost a bet to another and was forced to perform a sex act in the pub, holding up his thumb as teammates cheered him on.
Shocking footage has emerged from a footy club’s raucous Mad Monday celebrations where one young man performed a sex act on his teammate
The video and the scandal surrounding it made international headlines, even being picked up by American gossip outlets.
Club senior president Matt Hollard said all players had been summoned to an emergency meeting next week where the issue would be dealt with.
He said the team decided to address what happened as a group given how many players were at the unofficial celebrations.
Mr Hollard said club officials were in contact with the players in the video and they were ‘OK’.
‘While we’re frustrated with what they’ve done, we need to make sure they’re OK as they work through its and work on themselves,’ he said.
‘We’ll be acting on it and there will be consequences.’
Mr Hollard said the club was under huge pressure since the video hit social media on Tuesday night, and particularly since it broke in the news on Thursday.
‘There’s not a lot you can do when stuff like that gets out on social media, and we’re dealing with the aftermath – as usual,’ he said.
‘It’s been a tough time to be honest, for everyone on the committee who’s put their blood sweat and tears into the club.
‘It’s been almost unbearable, unrelenting the past 24 hours.’
The players didn’t really have much to celebrate after finishing last in the Eastern League’s Division 3 and being relegated to Division 4.
One of the Glen Waverley player’s lost a bet to his teammate – forced to perform the lewd act in the middle of a packed public pub
Glen Waverley Football Club said in an earlier statement it would take ‘immediate action’ on the players involved in both the lewd video and the destructive behaviour.
‘The committee has been made aware of an incident which has occurred during the post-season celebrations of some of our senior playing group,’ it said.
‘While this occurred away from the club and was not a club-sanctioned event, we are extremely saddened and disappointed in the behaviour shown by people who should know better.
‘The club is taking immediate action to address the serious breach of our culture and values that has occurred within this incident.’
Club officials said all players involved would be disciplined, not just the pair who committed the sex act.
‘The individuals involved, along with the broader playing group will be both disciplined and educated and if need be, counselled in the type of conduct expected by members of our club,’ it said.
‘Along with the physical and emotional impact this has had on the families involved, club members, players and the wider community.
‘There is no further comment at this time, and we request that the wellbeing of those be respected as they deal with the impact from the incident.’
