Forgotten Man City flop Jo still playing 11 years on from disastrous Premier League spell

Eleven years after his calamitous Man City career, Premier League flop Jo is still playing professional football.

Following his forgetful period in Manchester over a decade ago, it is a wonder the former Brazil International can find a club, especially after having limited success since moving on from the English game.

Having started his career at Brazilian side Corinthians, the six foot three inch striker impressed enough to seal a move to Russia, in the form of CSKA Moscow. Enjoying his most successful period as a professional footballer, Jo scored 44 goals in 77 appearances, while registering 10 assists for the Russian club, before joining Manchester City, looking a player with real potential.

While the fee remained undisclosed, it is believed City paid around £20million, a then club record, for their new forward. They didn’t come close to getting anything resembling value for money.

During his time in the Premier League Jo found the net just once in 21 appearances for the Manchester club, a period which also saw him produce unsuccessful loan spells at Everton and Galatasaray.

In the 27 league appearances for Everton the striker netted five times, which amazingly is a considerable improvement. At Turkish giants Galatasaray, Jo found the net on just three occasions.

Having signed in 2008, it took only three years of uninspiring performances for the club record signing to leave Manchester. City managed to recoup nothing on their fee, the striker moving back to Brazil to play for Internacional on a free transfer.

Since leaving City, Jo has been at an incredible eight different clubs, taking his total career tally to 11. He has played in Brazil, Dubai, China, and Japan following his move from City.

Now 35 years old, he is currently contracted to Brazillian club Ceara, but has yet to make an appearance this season. Failure to make an impact in the Premier League has clearly not deterred the journeyman footballer from continuing his career.
