BBC star Rachael Bland’s widower has revealed he is expecting twins with his new wife.

Steve Bland, from Cheshire, came to prominence after he began presenting the You, Me and the Big C podcast alongside Lauren Mahon and Deborah James following the death of his wife Rachael in 2018.

Steve met Amy, an advanced nurse practitioner, at a cancer conference in Manchester in 2019 and the two tied the knot in August.

In an Instagram post last night, Amy shared a snap of her blossoming baby bump with Steve and Rachael’s son Freddie, alongside the post: ‘Team VB is getting not one, but two new recruits next year.

‘Twins arriving in spring, all being well.’

In the photograph, which showed the pair posing in front of a Christmas tree, Freddie beams with joy as he points at Amy’s blossoming bump.

Meanwhile Amy can be seen lifting up her ‘Rebellious Hope’ sweatshirt to reveal the bump.

The couple announced their engagement last December and tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Cheshire in August.

Posting a photograph of their big day online, Steve revealed his son Freddie had acted as best man, adding: ‘What. A. Day. Our wedding day literally could not have been more perfect.

‘All our favourite people in one place, so many smiles, so much laughter, loads of dancing and memories made, and a little too much kraken.

‘I’ve got a lot of people to thank, chief among them my best men Freddie and @willjoewright, and one of my oldest buddies @davidhewaters for conducting the perfect ceremony.

‘I’ve also got really good answers now if anyone wants recommendations for flowers, photography or video because @charlottehowardfloraldesign, @jesshazlehurstphotography and @blanketdigital were all amazing. As was the venue @owenhouseweddingbarn and all the staff there.

‘Finally, and most importantly, I have to thank my incredible wife @vercelli83, who looked so so beautiful!’

Meanwhile his fellow podcast host Lauren wrote: ‘The most special day my heart is bursting. Love you both so much. Thank you for having me.’

Amy posted a similarly gushing post, commenting: ‘My husband and I had the most magical day yesterday. It truly surpassed all of our wildest dreams.

‘No words can adequately express how grateful we feel. Grateful for our amazing family and friends for making the day so wonderful.

‘Grateful for the outpouring of kind messages, sending so much love. Grateful for the amazing people who made the day so perfect.

‘Here’s to happily ever after.’

Steve shared the news he had proposed in December last year with his 14,600 Instagram followers.

Posting a string of romantic photos showing off his new fiancée Amy’s sparkly engagement ring, the 41-year-old, who lives in Cheshire, captioned the images with a simple ‘She said YES!’

The proposal came while Steve, who has a seven-year-old son, Freddie, by his late wife, and the NHS nurse were enjoying a romantic getaway in the Danish capital of Copenhagen.

In December last year, the father-of-one shared this photo to his Instagram page celebrating the proposal

The widower has spoken out in the past about refusing to feel guilty about finding love again with the NHS nurse Amy following Rachael’s death from breast cancer in 2018.

In May this year, he told ITV’s Lorraine show that people often asked him if he felt guilty about dating again.

He said: ‘It’s one of the most common questions I get asked: ‘Do I feel guilty? ‘Why should I? I’m 40-years-old and I’ve got the rest of my life ahead of me.’

Referencing the son, Freddie, seven, that he shares with Rachael, he said: ‘Rachael wanted me to be happy and wanted Freddie to be happy.

The former BBC radio presenter Rachael (right with Steve and Freddie) was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2016 and died in 2018

‘We need to break down the taboo and stop worrying about being judged for it. We’re trying to be happy and to make the most of life.’

Speaking in 2020 about getting together with new love Amy, he told the Daily Mail: ‘We took our time but, of course, my life revolves around Freddie so it’s difficult to get to know someone properly without involving them in his life, too’.

‘Going out in the evening is a military operation for a lone parent, organising babysitters, and my parents are a huge help, looking after Freddie when I go to London for work, but I don’t want to put upon them too much, so Amy would mostly come to us.’
