‘Dangerous’ £39 Winter Wonderland event scrapped as girl ‘nearly killed by dodgy lights’

A two-year-old ‘got an electric shock’ from dodgy lights while dozens of other kids were ‘left in tears’ at an ‘extremely dangerous’ Winter Wonderland in a farmyard shed.

The Enchanted Festivals event at Balgone Estate in East Lothian, Scotland, has been branded a Christmas ‘Fyre Festival’ as families were left to trudge through muddy and cold conditions at the ‘over-priced’ excursion.

Entry for the event cost £39 for a family during the evening, including the light trail, and £24 during the day, including access to the hay ‘maze’ – merely bales chucked together.

But one mum, writing on Facebook, said faulty lights gave her young daughter a nasty zap.

Writing on the event page, she said: “Well, my two-year-old got an electric shock from the string of lights acting as a railing as two bulbs were missing but they hadn’t been made safe.

“When she got the shock almost all of the other lights went out!! Thankfully she was OK just got a bit of a fright and a sore finger but it could have been so much worse!!

“Lots of plug sockets that had been covered with black bin bags had also been exposed and were open to the rain that evening down by the lake.”

After a deluge of complaints, event organisers Enchanted Festivals decided to pull the plug

In a chat with the Daily Star, she added: “I knew they were having problems with the electrician they had contracted in because he had disappeared before finishing thing on the first day.

“The night I went was the second night and the lights we had issues with were new that day. It just seemed a little bit slap dash to be honest. I definitely think it could have been alot worse and I’m just glad it wasn’t any higher a voltage.”

She added that organisers taped it up as soon as she made them aware of the dodgy lights.

After a deluge of complaints, event organisers Enchanted Festivals decided to pull the plug, “following disappointing feedback”.

One dad even went as far as to say the event ‘feels dangerous’

“There were some shortfalls that we do not feel confident that we can address before the event this weekend,” a statement said.

One dad, who chose not to be named, told the Daily Star: “The economic situation for many people in that area is bad. Many families must have saved up money so they can give their kids a special Christmas treat.

“Sadly they ended up giving it to a bunch of grifters who will happily take it off them.”

He thinks the organisers should “do the right thing” and donate their profits to a local charity.

“It really is little more than a few catering vans parked outside a muddy, working farm,” he said.

The dad even went as far as to say the event “feels dangerous” and the staff “extremely unqualified.

“The event feels dangerous, it is understaffed and the staff (while polite) and miserly young teenagers who seem extremely unqualified or undertrained,” he added.

Enchanted Festivals said ‘refunds will be issued automatically’ to those affected by the cancellation.
