Duck Sauce Killer’s suicide note claims he’s innocent, slams ‘sloppy’ NYPD
The notorious ‘Duck Sauce Killer’ ranted in a long-winded suicide note complaining about how the NYPD and other officials treated him and insisting his innocence.
Glenn Hirsch, 51, from Jamaica, in Queens, killed himself earlier this month ahead of a court hearing appearance after being bailed out of jail on a $500,000 bond.
A six-page suicide note – dated August 5, the day of his suicide – was filed in court on Monday and paints a portrait of Hirsch as frustrated by his portrayal in the media and trying to convince the reader of his wife’s – who faces weapons charges – innocence.
The letter was submitted by Hirsch’s wife, Dorothy, as a part of her defense. Dorothy Hirsch’s attorneys pointed to an admission by Glenn that he hid weapons from her without her knowledge.
He was accused of murdering Zhiwen Yan, a father-of-three, who he allegedly shot in the chest while Yan was fulfilling deliveries for a Chinese restaurant on his scooter in Forest Hills.

Hirsch declares his innocence in the murder of Yan: ‘I did not shoot Mr. Yan and I am not responsible for his death.’
He also demanded Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz ‘conduct a proper investigation’ into Yan’s April 30 death.
Hirsch writes: ‘My indictment and subsequent arrest in connection with this matter is one of the most obscene and egregious cases of defamation and wrongful arrest in recent memory. It is a textbook case of sloppy police work, confirmation bias, political pressure, and rush to judgment.’
He also rages at the NYPD releasing photos of the inside of his fridge in an attempt ‘to portray me as someone who is condiment obsessed.’
Hirsch’s theory as to who killed Yan is that it was either a stray bullet or the result of some sort of road rage dispute, as he went on about the crime wave hitting New York City and specifically his area of Forest Hills.
He wrote: ‘All the initial reports suggested that Mr. Yan was either the unintended target and was hit by a stray bullet or this was a road rage incident and someone approached him because of an earlier incident. As a matter of fact, only two weeks prior to this horrific crime, there was another murder in Forest Hills.’
Hirsch says that he’s ‘always been a kind and caring person’ and has a ‘very healthy sense of humor.’
He specifically hones his ire on the the prosecutors in his case, saying the tabloid media had it out for him.
Hirsch feared that he would be returned to prison over further weapons charges ahead of Friday’s hearing, writing that he didn’t want to sit in a cell for years or fight the charges from behind bars.
His ‘dying declaration’, which was partially submitted to the court, read: ‘I want to take full responsibility for the eight guns recovered from a closet in Dorothy’s apartment.’
Finally, he claimed to not necessarily be the type of person to commit suicide, ‘but the pain associated with this series of events is too much to bear. I haven’t made an emotional decision, but rather an intellectual one. Try as I may, I’ve analyzed the problem, and there is no solution.’
The closet at Dorothy Hirsch’s home (pictured above). Her lawyer claims that the contents of the closet that authorities searched during the June raid matches her husband’s ‘unique’ hoarding style
The court document read: ‘These photographs prove that – just as he stored his belonging in his closed at Dorothy’s apartment – Glenn hoarded his possessions in large black trash bags and cardboard boxes, which he then heaped on top of each other’

Dorothy’s attorney says it is only fair that the charges are now dropped in light of her husbands death, as well as other evidence
Hirsch, who was believed to have had several run-ins with the restaurant over duck sauce and other condiments, is accused of shooting Yan before fleeing the scene on April 30.
During the bust authorities seized eight handguns and ammunition from Hirsch’s Briarwood home, officials said.
Police records show the couple live in separate homes with Glenn living in nearby Jamaica.
The District Attorney’s office say in documents that they acknowledge that her husband had access to her apartment.
The guns were discovered in boxes and garbage bags amongst Hirsch’s other belonging in a closet used by him.
Police say that Hirsch, who is believed to have been driving an older model of a Lexus RX3 SV at the time, briefly exchange words at a traffic light before Yan was shot near 108th Street and 67th Drive.
At Hirsch’s Briarwood home, cops discovered his refrigerator packed with sweet and sour duck sauce.
‘His whole refrigerator was filled with duck sauce,’ a police source told the New York Daily News. ‘And other condiments.’
‘He’s a hoarder. And when you open the refrigerator, it’s like, condiments – there’s duck sauce, soy sauce, ketchup.’
Zhiwen Yan, 45, pictured with his wife in what appears to be a wedding photo. Yan, who worked as a Chinese food delivery man, 45, was shot dead in New York City: The shooter was a disgruntled customer who had ‘multiple’ disputes with the restaurant over his orders and twice threatened workers with a gun
Hirsch, pictured at Queen’s supreme court, was ordered to wear an ankle bracelet monitoring him and banned from leaving his neighborhood in Jamaica, Queens, before his death
A body bag was removed by authorities from Hirsch’s apartment in Jamaica, after the alleged killer shot himself
Mourners left flowers, candles, photos, and drawings at the scene at the Great Wall Chinese food restaurant in Forest Hills for murdered delivery man Zhiwen Yan
The source suggested the piles of condiments at his apartment on 141st Street were all a part of what was going on in Hirsch’s brain that may have lead him to kill.
‘I guess in some pathology people like that take that stuff very seriously – you didn’t give him enough duck sauce,’ they said.
In a statement Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said: ‘The loss of a human life is always tragic.
‘Obviously, we would have preferred to try Mr. Glenn Hirsch for the calculated murder of Mr. Zhiwen Yan in a court of law, but this is no longer an option.
‘We once again express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Zhiwen Yan, who continue to grieve his tragic and senseless loss.’
