Manchester City right-back Issa Kabore joins Marseille on loan with £17m option to buy

Manchester City right-back Issa Kabore has joined Marseille on loan with an option to buy for £17million.

Having signed for the reigning Premier League champions in 2020 from Belgian outfit KV Mechelen, Kabore failed to play a single game for Pep Guardiola‘s side.

Therefore, City have offloaded the 21-year-old to Marseille – making him the French side’s 13th signing of the summer.

Kabore will join the likes of Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez, ex-Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi and Turkish winger Cengiz Under, who joins from Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

However, Manchester City have inserted a buy-back option into the 21-year-old’s contract with the Ligue 1 side.

Meanwhile, City have confirmed the signing of Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht to add to Guardiola’s full-back options.

Gomez joins the Premier League champions in an £11million switch plus add-ons to provide competition for places, having agreed a four-year deal at the Etihad Stadium.

Throughout the summer the 21-year-old has been a target for City and was initially earmarked as a development player who could be sent out on loan.

However, following the failed pursuit of Brighton’s Marc Cucurella – who departed for Chelsea – as well as Wovles’ Rayan Ait-Nouri and Borussia Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro, it is now felt at the club that Gomez could actually make his mark at the Etihad Stadium this term.
