Shocking video shows the moment a drug dealer rammed a police officer with his Audi before reversing the getaway car into oncoming traffic.

Matthew Crofts, 24, was sentenced Friday to more than four years in prison after leading cops on a daytime chase in March 2021.

Police footage shows how officers boxed in Crofts, of Gill Crescent in Houlton, while attempting to pull him over in Rugby, the second largest town in Warwickshire.

Crofts then reversed his car at full speed, with his passenger door open, and struck a detective constable. He continued to reverse towards oncoming vehicles.

Police slammed the drug dealer over the ‘outrageous incident’ in which he was willing to endanger the public in order to ‘get away and save himself.’

Crofts has been convicted of dangerous driving, being concerned in the supply of cocaine and being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

The chase took place in March 3 last year after police attempted to pull over Crofts on Bath Street in Rugby.

After fleeing and leading authorities on a high-speed chase, Crofts hid out at a friend’s residence where he attempted to hide his evidence of drug dealing.

Police tracked him down to the property and arrested him. They also seized his drug paraphernalia.

Crofts was sentenced in Coventry Crown Court on Friday to 54 months in prison.

In response, police issued a stark warning to drig dealers stating they are ‘not welcome in Warwickshire.’

‘Crofts thought he could escape justice, and he was willing to endanger police and the public to do that,’ Warkwickshire Police Detective Chief Inspector Neil Reader said.

‘As he has discovered, actions have consequences – and his reckless behaviour only got him into more trouble.

‘Drug dealers are not welcome in Warwickshire, they prey on the vulnerable and try to destroy communities. All involved in this criminal activity can expect to be brought to justice.’

Detective Constable Matthew Rapkins added: ‘This was an outrageous incident in which a drug dealer was prepared to put members of the public’s lives at risk in order to get away and save himself.

‘He has knocked over a police officer in the process. Thankfully, nobody was seriously hurt and his efforts to hide evidence was all in vain as officers quickly located the evidence.’
