Jamie Carragher tells Jurgen Klopp to drop star for Darwin Nunez immediately

Jamie Carragher has told Jurgen Klopp to drop Roberto Firmino down to the bench despite his form – and put Darwin Nunez in.

Liverpool face Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday with both sides desperate for a win in the early exchanges of the Premier League season. Frank Lampard was already under pressure before the campaign began whereas the Reds are five points behind Manchester City already.

A dramatic 2-1 win over Newcastle lifted the gloom at Anfield on Wednesday in a match where Firmino scored an equaliser before Fabio Carvalho netted with the last kick of the match.

But all eyes will be on whether Nunez returns to the starting line-up in one of the biggest derbies in the Premier League.

Having served his three-match ban for a red card for violent conduct against Crystal Palace – when he headbutted Joachim Andersen following some mild provocation – Everton defenders would love the chance to get under the striker’s skin.

And with Firmino hitting form, there is a suggestion that the Brazilian could start ahead of the £85million man. However, Sky Sports pundit Carragher would disagree with such a selection.

Jurgen Klopp will have to decide whether to start Darwin Nunez or Roberto Firmino

On Twitter, the Liverpool legend said: “Start him! Firmino has been great the last two games, but three games in a week won’t be easy for him. Nunez has been training and it’s one of the few areas we can freshen up with the quick turnaround.”

Firmino has scored three and assisted three in his last two outings, proving after Nunez’s arrival that he will not go quietly. However, the Brazilian has never scored against Everton in 12 outings.

But with Diogo Jota still injured, Klopp will have to be careful with his current crop not to wear them out too soon with Firmino having played a number of matches already.
