Ex-Liverpool prodigy Bobby Duncan blasts agent Saif Rubie for ‘ruining’ career
Former Liverpool prodigy Bobby Duncan has blasted his former agent Saif Rubie for ‘ruining’ his career.
The forward, 21, was an exciting youth academy prospect at Liverpool, along with being the cousin of legendary Reds captain Steven Gerrard. He notably once netted a staggering 66 goals in a single season as a youngster.
But things went pear-shaped when Duncan left in controversial fashion in 2019, after his agent Rubie accused Liverpool of ‘mental bullying’ and not allowing the player to leave for Fiorentina. Rubie publicly claimed Duncan suffered “deep mental issues” as a result, and the teenage star was sold to the Italian club for £1.8million a few days later.

Duncan went on to dump his controversial agent several months after the move, where he failed to make an impact for the Serie A side. And after a spell with Derby, he now plies his trade in the Spanish third tier with Real Balompedica Linense, while ex-agent Rubie claimed on Monday that he had actually urged Duncan to stay at Liverpool three years ago.
He told talkSPORT: “Can I tell you something in that particular case? I actually advised him to stay at Liverpool and you have to understand one thing, which is what I was trying to tell you guys, my job is to do the best for whoever is telling me to help them whether it be the player, a buying club or a selling club.
“In that particular case, you can choose to believe me or not, I thought him staying was the best outcome. It wasn’t meant to be and in the end it got a bit ugly with Liverpool which is unfortunate.”
Yet the former Red wasted no time in hitting out at his former representative on Twitter, saying: “I didn’t have a decision nor say as you took it upon yourself to jeopardise my career and to turn a local lad away from his boyhood club and leave me and my family to pick up all the pieces.
“Not once have I spoken upon this top in ‘four years’ as it’s been my main priority to get my career back on track. But, yet you think you have the right to mention my name on a live radio show.
“I should never have trusted my career in your hands. I have learnt my harsh lesson there. And I just pray you have learnt yours as it could ruin another young boys career.”
Daily Star Sport has approached Rubie for a response.
