Elderly man dies after blaze at £2.1m home in prosperous London suburb

Emergency providers have launched an investigation after a person died in a home hearth in south-west London

Four hearth engines crewed by 25 firefighters have been known as to Onslow Road in Richmond shortly after 8pm on Monday evening.

They attended at a three-bed dwelling on the road, stated to be price some £2.1million within the leafy suburb, and reported injury inside the floor flooring of the property.

Tragically, the physique of a person was found inside the dwelling, and pronounced lifeless on the scene.

Details of the deceased weren’t instantly out there; the Metropolitan Police have described him as ‘aged’.

Residents in adjoining properties have been evacuated as a precaution whereas the fireplace was extinguished. 

Investigators have moved in; forensics specialists in white overalls have been seen on the entrance to the property as their inquiries received underway.

A neighbour instructed the Evening Standard: ‘It’s very unhappy, the person had lived right here for a while.

‘His spouse died some time again. He was a pleasant man.’

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade stated: ‘Sadly, a person has died following a home hearth in Richmond.

‘Four hearth engines and round 25 firefighters responded to a fireplace on Onslow Road, in a constructing of three flooring. Part of the bottom flooring was broken by the fireplace. A person was discovered within the dwelling, and sadly pronounced lifeless on the scene.

‘The Brigade was known as at 2008, and the fireplace was below management by 2205. Firefighters from Richmond, Kingston and Twickenham hearth stations attended the scene.

‘The hearth is below investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.’

A spokesperson for the Met Police stated: ‘An aged man has died following a fireplace in Richmond. Police have been known as at 8.14pm to the fireplace at an handle in Onslow Road.

‘Some neighbouring addresses have been evacuated as a precaution. The reason behind the fireplace is presently unknown. Police stay on the scene.’

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson instructed the Standard: ‘We have been known as at 8:09pm to stories of a fireplace on Onslow Road, Richmond. 

‘We despatched numerous assets to the scene, together with ambulance crews, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous space response workforce (HART).

‘Sadly, an individual was pronounced lifeless on the scene.’
