BMW driver admits killing two mates in automotive smash

A BMW driver has admitted to killing two ‘lifelong mates’ by harmful driving after his automotive collided with theirs in November 2021. 

Ellie Crossley and Rebecca Doughty, each 20, have been travelling again dwelling to Flintshire, North Wales from shopping for Christmas presents in a silver Citreon which collided with a blue BMW.

The pair died collectively however the different driver, Benjamin Lewis, survived. Police later appealed for witnesses and sprint cam footage of the collision which closed the street for a number of hours.

Lewis, 30, beforehand entered responsible pleas at Chester Crown Court in October 2023 to demise by careless driving.

At the time, he denied fees of demise by harmful driving and was charged over the deadly collision which occurred on the A5117 at Dunkirk, close to to the junction with the M56 motorway.

The prosecution had not accepted the defendant’s responsible pleas to the lesser cost and a five-day trial was listed for September 23.

But at a pre-trial evaluation listening to at Chester Crown Court, Lewis, from Neston, Cheshire modified his pleas to responsible to the extra severe cost.

The case was adjourned for stories to be ready.

Lewis is to be sentenced at Chester Crown Court on April 29 earlier than Judge Simon Berkson and was handed unconditional bail till that date.

At the time of the tragedy, Lewis was faraway from the automotive by firefighters and brought to hospital with severe accidents.

A tribute from the women’ households mentioned: ‘Ellie Crossley, from Holywell, and Rebecca Doughty, of Connah’s Quay, have been lifelong mates.

‘The women, each aged 20, have been travelling dwelling from a Christmas buying journey after they have been tragically concerned in a deadly street visitors collision.

‘Both households, and their mates, have been left really devastated by this tragic occasion and can sadly miss them.

‘Close mates for his or her brief lives, they are going to be in our hearts endlessly.’
