Man United co-owner Joel Glazer does NOT want to sell Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United co-chairman Joel Glazer remains against selling superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, despite boss Erik ten Hag being open to selling the forward.

The 37-year-old’s future at Old Trafford has been up in the air ever since he declared his intention to quit the club earlier in the summer following their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Erik ten Hag, who became the club’s first manager in 101 years to lose his first two games following their 4-0 hammering at Brentford on Saturday, has remained adamant throughout the transfer window that Ronaldo remains part of his plans.

Recent reports have suggested the former Ajax boss could now be open to letting the former Real Madrid star leave Old Trafford.

The owners have different ideas and are the ones that have resisted any efforts to sell Ronaldo so far this summer, according to Manchester Evening News.

The same outlet suggests United denied a weekend report they could terminate Ronaldo’s contract and sources insist the club’s position that the forward is not for sale has not changed.

Glazer sanctions every transfer at United and he has intervened in the past – therefore he could once again.

This comes after The Athletic claims that ten Hag has now changed his mind and is open to letting Ronaldo leave, citing his difficult reintegration back into the squad after he missed most of pre-season due to family reasons.

It has been said that there have been days where Ronaldo sits by himself during lunch at the canteen at their Carrington training ground.

There have also been instances of him flapping his arms about in training and trying to argue against the high-pressing approach implemented by Ten Hag.

Sportsmail understands that while Ronaldo is said to be training well, he exchanged words with Ten Hag’s No 2 Steve McClaren at the final whistle after refusing to applaud United’s travelling fans, and there is a feeling that his mood is having a negative effect on the dressing room.

Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has been working on an exit plan for his client but Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid have each distanced themselves from a move for the veteran forward.

United, however, would be light of options up front if they were to let him leave after failing to recruit another forward to slot into ten Hag’s plans of a front three.

Ronaldo scored 24 goals in 38 games for United last season while Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho scored just five each. Anthony Martial was sent out on loan to LaLiga side Sevilla.

It could be a huge blow unless United can somehow tempt a new striker to Old Trafford that can provide the goals they could potentially lose from Ronaldo.
