Everton withdraw factors deduction attraction as followers say ‘no relegation no downside’

Everton have withdrawn their points deduction appeal – and fans are laughing at the Premier League.

The Toffees were docked two points after an independent commission found the club had breached Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) by £16.6m for the three-year period up to 2022-23.

Premier League clubs are permitted to lose £105m over a three-year period and Everton had already been deducted 10 points – reduced to six on appeal – for the period up to 2021-22.

Everton will finish the season with their points deduction

A statement from the club read: “Everton Football Club has withdrawn its appeal of the decision by a Premier League Independent Commission to impose a two-point deduction on the club for a breach of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules for the accounting period ending in June 2023.

“A hearing, scheduled for later this month, will now not proceed, and the club will conclude the 2023/24 Premier League season with the two-point deduction remaining in place.”

Toffees fans were quick to react at the Premier League, one fan posted on social media: “You can shove your points deduction up your a**!”

“Big fan of us essentially telling them ‘actually turns out we don’t need those points after all, you keep them’,” a second joked. While a third replied: “Would have just been easier to write ‘we’re going to finish 15th anyway and we can’t a***d’.”

“Hahahah we’ve basically gone ‘sorry lads we actually don’t need those points anymore but thanks’,” a fourth said. And another added: “Absolutely the right thing to do. Draw a line under it, and save ourselves some pennies too!”
