Man Utd gamers ‘not completely satisfied’ as WAGs informed through textual content membership will not pay for FA Cup journey
Manchester United‘s mega-rich players stars were left fuming after they were told their WAGs wouldn’t get a freebie to the FA Cup final – and had to arrange their own private jet.
The Red Devils’ top earners are in a huff as they’ve been pinged by text that their other halves won’t be scoring gratis seats to Wembley. Club penny-pinching means the squad’s nearest and dearest have to cough up for their own digs, travel, and match day tickets against Manchester City.
Gobsmacked sources spilled the beans to the Mirror, revealing the lads are “not happy” with the news dropping via SMS that the usual club-sponsored jaunt is off the cards thanks to budget slashes. Now, the WAGs and family members are digging into their pockets for accommodation and travel, while the players have had to sort out a private jet to zip families down to London.

A mole dished to the Mirror that the squad got wind of the change only recently and through a text, leaving them miffed. “The club has offered to arrange hospitality or private boxes for the families but the players will be paying for it,” reports the Mirror.
The insider let slip that snagging a ticket will set back each family member by £1,000 – £2,000, and it’s a scramble with a “first come first serve” policy. This could see United’s footballing heroes’ families dotted around Wembley in different boxes, away from their kin.

Despite the players’ hefty pay packets, which run into millions per year, traditionally it’s been the club picking up the tab for these outings. Families have previously enjoyed luxurious hotels, private flights, and exclusive afterparties.
However, not only the players but also Old Trafford’s 1,100 employees have seen their perks reduced. A club-wide email sent last month informed staff that they will receive just one complimentary ticket to the match each and will be expected to contribute £20 to their coach travel.
Previously, all Old Trafford staff were treated to a free lunch, with their travel expenses covered by the club and an exclusive invite to the afterparty. Senior staff members even received complimentary tickets for family and friends. But all of these perks have been reduced to just one ticket for each staff member, who will have to pay £20 towards their subsidised coach travel.
Club sources say they struggled to provide the same benefits as in previous years, due to increasing staff numbers and smaller ticket allocations for big games. For the FA Cup final, United have been allocated just 30,000 tickets available for 55,000 season ticket holding fans.
Title chasing City in contrast will provide free tickets and coach travel for each and every staff member who wishes to attend the May 25 clash. It’s understood the Citizens will still be providing an official trip for players’ families and WAGs too.
The reductions at United come as critics claim Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos colleagues are implementing a series of new austerity measures to deal with the club’s historic debt. The Red Devils are in a financial pickle with a whopping £508.1m hole due to the Glazers’ leveraged buyout, and the net debt has skyrocketed to £710m when you chuck in a credit revolving facility.
United fans are fuming, calling their iconic home Old Trafford an ’embarrassment’ after it turned into a swimming pool during the downpour that followed their loss to Arsenal on Sunday. Plans to spruce up the 114 year old gantry are now on ice as bigwigs chew over the idea of creating a spanking new “Wembley of the North” in Manchester.
And let’s not forget Carrington, United’s training ground that was once the bee’s knees but now looks more like the dog’s dinner. It’s been 24 years since it opened its doors, and now the club’s mulling over whether to pack up and move or give the place a much-needed facelift to meet today’s swanky standards.
