‘Give our kids an actual future by voting Labour on the General Election’

There are many reasons why we need Labour to win on July 4 but chief among them must be the chance to secure a better future for our children.

As Angela Rayner tells the Mirror, most young people have only known life under the Tories. They deserved so much better. The Conservatives have stood by as more and more children are brought up in poverty.

They didn’t recruit enough teachers and cut funds for one-to-one tuition and music lessons. Tens of thousands are being taught in buildings which are falling apart because they cancelled Labour’s rebuilding programme.

And when Covid struck, Rishi Sunak refused funds to help kids catch up on lost learning. The Tories have robbed too many children of the chance to fulfil their potential. That’s why this generation needs a Labour government more than ever.

Greedy giants

More than seven million people are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis. Many have racked up debts, others must choose between heating and eating.

And while households are having to count every penny, the bosses of the oil and gas giants have never had it so good. Chief executives of Britain’s ten biggest energy firms raked in a combined £50million last year. These lavish salary-and-pension packages are not recognition for outstanding management, they are the greed-ridden by-product of firms which have benefited from the surge in prices following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

There is no justification for such bumper salaries. There is every justification for a proper windfall tax on the oil and gas giants.

Save the magic

The domestic football season draws to a close today with the FA Cup final. It has a special place in fans’ hearts. But that magic will go if plans to scrap replays proceed. Football bosses should remember the Cup is there for all teams, not just for those in the Premier League.
