Rory McIlroy in dramatic divorce U-turn realising ‘finest future is collectively’
In a shock twist just before the US Open, golf ace Rory McIlroy and his missus Erica Stoll have binned their divorce plans and are back on track after ironing out their marriage woes. Despite lobbing in the divorce papers last month, right before the PGA Championship, it seems Rory and Erica have had a rethink and the pair reckon they’re better off together.
They’ve been hitched for seven years, and there’s been plenty of reports about them possibly calling it quits.
But tonight, golf ace Rory has told the Guardian: “There have been rumours about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumour is a fool’s game. Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realised that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”
This patch-up job is a massive turnaround for Rory and Erica, who’ve been through the mill with all the gossip flying around. US Weekly had previously dished out that Stoll was feeling pretty lonely, which echoes why McIlroy’s relationship once ended things with tennis pro Caroline Wozniacki.

Speculation has been rife about potential new love interests for the golfer, particularly CBS Sports golf reporter Amanda Balionis. The rumour mill went into overdrive when Balionis, who notably stopped wearing her wedding ring around the same time McIlroy announced his split, displayed a friendly rapport with the golfer during interviews.
The internet was abuzz with fans playfully speculating about the apparent chemistry between the pair, with comments ranging from humorous observations to speculative chatter. The dynamic between McIlroy and Balionis during their interviews certainly caught the attention of golf fans across the globe, reported the Mirror.
McIlroy and Stoll tied the knot in 2017 and share a daughter named Poppy, who is three years old. Following her husband’s submission of legal documents, Stoll, aged 36, had the customary 20-day period in Florida to provide her response. However, as reported by the Daily Mail, Stoll failed to meet this deadline, which expired on Sunday.
