‘Starmer should provide the hope of a greater tomorrow with Labour’s manifesto’
Keir needs to seal deal
When Keir Starmer unveils Labour’s manifesto Thursday, it will be his chance to make sure he has earned Britain’s vote.
At the heart of the package will be plans to kick-start Britain’s moribund economy. But there are also pledges to build more homes, improve workers’ rights, boost skills and ease the cost of living crisis.
Unlike the fantasy offering from the Tories earlier this week, Labour’s proposals are fully costed and rooted in reality. Voters are looking to Labour to rebuild the economy, repair public services and restore pride in Britain’s communities.
Rishi Sunak’s claim the economy had turned a corner was demolished by official figures yesterday showing GDP flatlined in April. On Thursday, Mr Starmer must not just offer change but the hope of a better tomorrow.
Mother’s grief
A year ago today the life of Emma Webber was changed for ever when her young son Barnaby was killed on the streets of Nottingham.
To lose any child is every parent’s worst nightmare but it almost impossible to imagine the trauma of losing your loved one in such a horrific and violent way.
Ms Webber speaks eloquently of the grief she will always carry –a grief she shares with the families of Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Ian Coates. Adding to their agony. they are still waiting for answers about why more was not done to prevent mentally ill Valdo Calocane from carrying out his killing spree.
Ms Webber has been sustained by the love of her family and the kindness shown by so many others, sometimes complete strangers. But her words are a heartbreaking reminder of the long shadow cast by an act of evil.
