Two UK cities ranked within the prime 50 ‘most harmful’ on the earth
Two UK cities have been ranked in the top 50 ‘most dangerous ‘ in the world.
Coventry – voted UK capital of Culture for 2021 – has been ranked as the most dangerous in the the country and comes in at 41st globally, data shows.
Its West Midlands neighbour Birmingham comes second nationally after ranking 44th most dangerous in the world.

The list, compiled by numbeo.com, gives a ‘crime index’ rating to cities based on an estimation of the overall level of crime.

Crime levels lower than 20 are considered very low, while levels higher than 80 are seen as very high.
It bases its rankings on survey responses from locals and visitors, including questions about specific crimes and how safe people feel walking the streets at night.
Coventry was given a crime index of 65, while Birmingham was rated at 63.6. Venezuela’s capital Caracas, which took top spot in the poll, scored a whopping 82.

Latest figures show the overall crime rate in Coventry in 2023 was 126 crimes per 1,000 people, while Birmingham recorded 137 crimes per 1,000 people.
The most common crimes in both cities are violence and sexual offences, with 16,323 offences recorded in Coventry during 2023 and with 63,688 offences in Birmingham.
This week, a man was charged with the murders of two men who were struck by a car in separate incidents on the same day in Coventry.

Pedestrian Leo Moran, 44, and 47-year-old cyclist Joel Carriedo were both hit by the same vehicle last September, police said.
Emiljano Kasaj, 33, of no fixed address, is charged with two counts of murder and the attempted murder of a third man who was injured after being hit by the vehicle.
Meanwhile, a father and son were this week been found guilty of conspiracy to murder a shop owner in Birmingham.
Mohammed Aslam, 56, and Mohammed Nazir, 30, hired a hitwoman to carry out the botched revenge execution, a court heard.
