‘Virgin Mary’ seems on mountainside as locals declare it’s ‘holy signal’
Devotees claim the Virgin Mary made an appearance on a series of sacred mountains in Colombia.
Carlos Alzate, a photographer who captured the moment, asserts that Jesus’ mother appeared at Cerro del Mavecure, three hills above the Inirida River, that have been revered for thousands of years.
The photograph depicts what seems to be a radiant white figure standing or hovering above a rocky outcrop on the cliff face. Local media reported on June 23 that the figure appears to glow with its own light as the sunlight strikes it.

Alzate, who posted the picture, claimed on social media: “The Virgin Mary appeared to me in the hills.”

The Mavecure Hills are not only a natural marvel but also hold profound cultural and spiritual significance for the region’s Puinave people, according to locals.
The photograph immediately sparked theories that the apparition was a divine sign.
One social media user commented: “The Virgin of Inirida, now the believers are going to arrive.”
Another added: “That is a sign, something. It can happen according to the mythological belief of the Puinave people.”

Locals reportedly view the ‘apparition’ as a positive omen for the local community.
In August last year a woman got the biggest shock of her life while eating a slightly bruised banana.
Purchased from a branch of Tesco in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, the unnamed woman claimed to have found the face of Jesus Christ in the piece of fruit.
She said: “My husband brought the bananas home on Tuesday, and I was a bit annoyed because, although they looked alright on the outside, nearly all of them were bruised on the inside.
“Imagine my surprise then, when I wandered back into the kitchen to find the face of our lord and saviour looking back at me from one of the bruised ends!”
