Sarah Everard’s killer Wayne Couzens charged with two further offences of exposure

Sarah Everard‘s killer Wayne Couzens will be charged with two further offences of exposure, the Crown Prosecution Service said today (Friday, 19 August).

Scotland Yard said they are alleged to have happened in June 2015, in the Dover area of Kent and November 2020, in the Deal area of the county.

The former Metropolitan police officer will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 2 September 2022.

Rosemary Ainslie, head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s (CPS) Special Crime Division, said: ‘The CPS has authorised two further charges of exposure against Wayne Couzens, following a referral of evidence by the Metropolitan Police.

‘The two alleged offences took place in June 2015 and November 2020.

‘Wayne Couzens will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 2 September 2022.

‘The function of the CPS is not to decide whether a person is guilty of a criminal offence, but to make fair, independent and objective assessments about whether it is appropriate to present charges to a court to consider.

‘The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Wayne Couzens are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.’

Couzens now faces six indecent exposure claims after the CPS authorised four charges against him in March last year.

He elected to face a jury who will decide whether he is guilty of the indecent exposure charges alleged to have taken place between January 22 and February 27 last year.

The former police officer is accused of flashing his genitals on four occasions – and in one case, just 72 hours before he abducted, raped and murdered 33-year-old marketing executive Miss Everard during the third Covid lockdown.

Those charges state he allegedly ‘intentionally exposed his genitals intending that someone would see them and be caused alarm and distress’.

The killer, who is currently serving a whole-life sentence, is accused of presenting himself to at least one person at a McDonald’s drive-thru in Swanley, Kent while he was serving with Scotland Yard.

The incidents are alleged to have taken place on four occasions in Swanley between January 22 and February 1 2021, January 30 and February 6, on February 14 and February 27 last year.
