Fans need English refs ‘boycott’ as Anthony Taylor denies Germany pen vs Spain
Football fans want international teams to boycott English referees as Anthony Taylor denied Germany a penalty against Spain.
German players were left livid as they were denied what they believed was a spot-kick when Marc Cucurella handled the ball in their Euro 2024 quarter-final tie. Julian Nagelsmann’s side were almost in disbelief as their protests were waved away by Taylor and his VAR team.
“Germany should not have lost this. That was a clear penalty. English refs at it again. Every country should f***ing boycott these referees from England,” one fan fumed. While a second said: “The worst call in Euro history, and of course, the perpetrator is none other than Mr. Anthony Taylor…”

“A clear penalty wasn’t given to Germany and now they’re out in the last second of the game.. You’ll never believe the league the referee officiates in. Yeah the Premier League. That’s what we face week in week out,” a third ranted.
“Congrats to Spain and Anthony Taylor I guess,” a fourth posted. And another added: “Anthony Taylor is a disgrace, how does he constantly fail upwards?”

However, according to ESPN’s Dale Johnson, the Premier League officials were correct to wave away the appeals under UEFA’s interpretation of handball.
“UEFA’s pre-tournament briefing on handballs gave a specific example just like Marc Cucurella, saying it should NOT be a handball penalty,” Johnson posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Arm close to the side, pointing predominantly down/vertically, and/or a position behind line of the body.
“It differs from the penalty Joachim Andersen conceded against Germany. UEFA deems that arm position to be unnatural and creating a barrier. Understandable fans would think the two decisions are the wrong way around… But they aren’t per intended interpretation.”
Germany crashed out of their own tournament on Friday, as Mikel Merino sent Spain through with an 118th minute header.
