Former Church of England vicar seems in courtroom

A former Church of England vicar has appeared in court charged with nine historic offences. 

Jonathan Fletcher, 81, appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with eight counts of indecent assault and one of grievous bodily harm. 

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the alleged offences took place between 1973 and 1999. 

Mr Fletcher was vicar of Emmanuel Church in Wimbledon between 1982 and 2012. 

He has been bailed and will appear at Kingston Crown Court on August 7.
