Microsoft’s worldwide outage sparks ‘three-day weekend’ celebrations
Microsoft has suffered a worldwide outage and employees for businesses who rely on the software giant to get work done have taken to social media to celebrate the Friday morning surprise.
Those impacted include flight companies having to ground their planes, banks and even Sky TV. Users are reporting seeing what has become known as the Blue Screen of Death error message which comes from a problem with cybersecurity company CrowdStrike.
Microsoft 365 say they are investigating an issue impacting users’ ability to access apps and services.

“Our services are still seeing continuous improvements while we continue to take mitigation actions,” they said on X this morning. “We still expect that users will continue to see gradual relief as we continue to mitigate the issue.”
However, those using the services for the daily grind are taking to X to celebrate the fact that their Friday schedule has been scuppered by the tech issues.
One man said the outage makes life ‘worth living’ again. He wrote on X: “Just one microsoft worldwide outages that prevents us from using our work laptops makes this life worth living again.”
Alongside a video of four pandas appearing to throw their heads back with laughter, another person said: “People in offices across the world right now after watching their laptop screen turn blue thanks to global Crowdstrike outage!”
A third said: “Most people get an early extended weekend due to the #microsoft outage except for the IT support folks.”
Sam Whyte called for more outages, saying: “Whoever’s responsible for the Microsoft outage is getting fired anyway, so the smart thing to do would be knock Teams out for the day too and leave a hero.”
Others were ‘furious’ that they didn’t experience outages. One wrote: “Actively furious that the global Microsoft outage doesn’t seem to have affected my workplace.”
A second said alongside a picture of an angry woman poised to throw a brick: “When your work laptop is absolutely fine throughout a global Microsoft outage.”
And, sadly for some, Microsoft is reporting that the problem is slowly being rectified.
