Plane crash horror as 68-seater passenger plane lands in enormous fireball
A passenger plane has plunged to the ground in a fireball in Brazil, with fears of dozens of deaths.
The plane, able to carry dozens of passengers, has crashed near São Paulo, according to reports. Reports in Brazilian media claim 58 passengers and four crew members were on board the aircraft.
According to the airline, Voepass, the plane is a turboprop passenger plane, model ATR-72, which left Cascavel, state of Paraná, bound for Guarulhos, São Paulo.
“Voepass has activated all means to support those involved. There is still no confirmation of how the accident occurred or the current situation of the people on board,” Voepass said in a statement.
Footage showed on TV in the country shows a large area on fire and smoke coming out of what is believed to be a plane fuselage.
Additional footage on GloboNews captures a plane drifting downward vertically, spiraling as it falls.
The local fire service confirmed the plane fell to the ground near the Vinhedo, but at this stage, it is unclear how many people were travelling on the plane or how many – if any – are injured.
According to news outlet G1, it happened at around 2pm local time. Voepass Linhas Aereas – the carrier believed to have been implicated – is based in São Paulo and uses Guarulhos International Airport in the northeast of the city.
