Jay Slater’s household launches one other new fundraiser forward of sweet sixteen’s funeral
Jay Slater ’s family launched a new fundraiser ahead of his funeral taking place on Saturday morning.
The 19-year-old apprentice brick layer was found dead after vanishing while on holiday in Tenerife. His body was found last month, weeks after his disappearance and following a frantic search from family, police and other volunteers.
His mother, Debbie Duncan, 55, dad Warren, 58, and brother Zak, 24, launched a fundraiser at the time to help fund searching efforts. Ahead of his funeral, another has been launched, reports the Express.

Jay had been returning to his accommodation after travelling to an Airbnb with two men he had met at the NRG music festival.
A post-mortem examination found that his death was instantaneous, and injuries were consistent with a fall – with the Spanish police suggesting he had fallen in the difficult terrain he was walking through.
Mr Slater’s funeral is set to take place on Saturday, August 10, in Accrington, Lancashire – near his hometown of Oswaldtwistle.
His family has asked if, rather than sending flowers, well-wishers could make donations to LBT Global. This charity supports the families of people missing abroad – with the family launching a dedicated website.
A short statement on the new fundraising site states: “This fundraiser is in memory of Jay Slater, so friends and family can honour his memory with a gift to LBT Global.
“Jay’s family have asked for donations in memory of Jay to LBT Global, the charity that has helped and continues to help, them through the tragic loss of Jay in Tenerife.
“All donations will go straight to supporting families in similar situations.”
A GoFundMe originally set off following Mr Slater’s disappearance, and later used to raise funds for a ‘good send off’ for him, raised more than £72,000.
A tribute released by his family ahead of the funeral states: “A loving son of Debbie and Warren, a cherished brother of Zak and brother-in-law of Jessica, a treasured grandson of Dawn, June and the late Dougie, a much-loved nephew of Glen and Katie, a dear cousin of Maddie and Tillie and a loyal friend to many. Jay will be very sadly missed by all those who knew him.”
The family said: “After Jay left Rhyddings High School he went on to become an apprentice bricklayer with the PH Build group, a job he greatly enjoyed.
“At the young age of five Jay started playing football for Huncoat United FC until the age of 17 and also did a few seasons with the Sunday team at St Joesph’s too.
“He also loved spending time chilling out with his friends.
“Jay’s love of music and dance started at a very young age. He loved attending music festivals and events across the country and also loved to socialise and meet new people.”
