Weather forecaster warns ‘second August heatwave’ will roast UK subsequent week
Weather forecasters reckon more heatwave conditions could be coming to the UK in just a few days’ time.
Today (Monday, August 12) is set to be the hottest day of the year so far. The Met Office reckons temperatures could soar up to 34C in some areas this afternoon, particularly in southern and eastern parts of England. And it seems we won’t have to wait long for similar scorching temperatures to return.
Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden wrote in an update on Facebook this morning: “Signals are ever-increasing for the hot to very hot weather to return during late August.” He highlighted August 20 to August 25 as the likely period for this “major heat surge”.
Madden also suggested these “high pressure rises” could extend into September. However, he cautioned about “prolonged and much cooler” conditions across the country before this second heatwave hits.
The Met Office has also hinted at a potential second hot spell later this month, pinpointing southern and eastern regions as the most probable areas. Its forecast for August 16 to August 25 reads: “Temperatures overall will be close to average for August, and there is a possibility of very warm conditions returning to parts of the south and east.”
Looking further ahead, the Met Office’s forecast for August 26 to September 9 suggests that “hot spells remain possible in the south and east”, although temperatures are expected to be “close to average overall” during this period.
Netweather forecasters say “hot interludes” are on the cards for England between August 19 and August 25, as heat from the continent makes its way over. Echoing this, the BBC forecast states: “High pressure to the south could occur at times so there should be some chances of importing any warm spells from the south, but overall temperatures should stay near the August average.”
