Weather forecaster names precise date warmth will return as rain batters elements of UK
A weather forecaster has provided light at the end of the tunnel after naming the exact date the heat is set to return, as many Brits wake up to rainy skies.
Heavy rain is the order of the day for August 15, as the Met Office said the inclement conditions will follow a mainly ‘fine’ start to the day. The office said on its website: “Mainly fine and dry across England and Wales and likely to stay dry in the south and east but turning breezy.
“Strong winds and rain becoming widespread across Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England with heavy rain on high hills.”

But the dreary outlook was offset by Exacta’s James Madden who said sunnier conditions are on the horizon for later in the month.
“Is there any more HOT weather coming our way (UK and Ireland)?” he asked rhetorically in a Facebook post.
The post went on: “There are now some increasing and strengthening signals within our own forecast projections for another major heat surge during late August or for a significant pattern switch to develop over several days in and around August 25, possibly a little earlier.
“Four consecutive heat surges have occurred for almost or on the exact dates on our part throughout this summer in repeated reports and updates dating anywhere from 4 to 16 weeks in advance, which therefore increases confidence to something moderately higher for this next period.”
Madden then earmarked exact dates he reckons the heat will return. He said: “We therefore expect another hot to very hot period from another high pressure build to gain strength for around August 20–25, particularly for in and around August 25.
“Additionally, these high pressure rises are of even greater confidence to continue into September at times, but with some notable caveats that have been covered in the autumn of 2024 and subscriber reports in greater detail for this period.”
As for Friday (August 16), the Met Office reckons it will show signs of improvement. Its site says: “Dry with plenty of sunny spells for many on Friday with showers continuing for northwest Scotland. Feeling breezy here but lighter winds in the south. Feeling warm in the sunshine.”
For Saturday to Monday, it says weather will remain similar over the weekend with moderate winds and temperatures around average. More rain expected from the west through Monday, with heavy showers in the north.
For the period that Madden reckons the heat will return, the Met Office take a more reserved approach. The agency says that between Monday, August 19 and Wednesday, August 28, the weather will be unsettled – even influenced by the after effects of a hurricane.
The site says: “An unsettled start to the week with cloud and rain in many areas. This should clear, to allow a brighter interlude midweek with showers in the northwest.
“The second half of next week is uncertain, influenced to some extent by the remnants of ex-Hurricane Ernesto. The most likely scenario is a period of unsettled weather, especially in the north and west with heavy rain and strong winds possible, while it may be warmer and less-wet towards the southeast.
“By the weekend and the following week, a mobile westerly regime is likely, most of the wet weather in the north and west, and longer drier interludes in the southeast.
“Temperatures overall will be close to average, but the chance of short-lived very warm conditions in the south and east at times.”
