Wizz Air punters get limitless flights so far as Maldives with one yearly worth

A popular budget airline has introduced a new subscription service meaning users can get unlimited flights for a fixed yearly price.

For just a one-off yearly price of €499 (£426), travellers can apply to receive unlimited flights from around the world on Wizz Air. The offer even includes slights as far as the Maldives.

While the deal sounds great, several people have spoken out about supposed catches involved in the booking process. Starting off, you had fill out a detailed application form to be considered for the All You Can Fly scheme.

Second of all, all flights have to be booked at least three days of advance or else you will not be able to board. On top of this, Wizz Air charge an additional €10 (£8.52) booking fee every time you wish to take a flight.

Wizz Air claim they’ve been overwhelmed with the positive response to their scheme, and add that is is a way for customers to “save money, visit friends and family more regularly and spontaneously visit off-the-beaten-track destinations”.

They sold out the membership in 24 hours and appear to be the first European airline to introduce a scheme where customers can enjoy unlimited air travel. They fly to 53 countries, including must of Europe and some of the Middle East.

Adding to the booking charges, members are also left without cabin bags to put in the overhead compartments and are presumably expected to pay for baggage they take on the flight. Importantly, only 10,000 memberships were available to purchase on the scheme.

Editor of Which? Travel told the BBC the deal might not be as sweet as people think and encouraged them to look into it before splashing the cash. The scheme, which is due to start in September, contains several hidden costs.

He claims that once the additional fees and costs are added, customers will see the price climbing. Plus, multiple short-notice journeys will “be required to break even on the original cost of the subscription.”

“It is also ironic to see an airline which claims to be Europe’s ‘greenest’ encouraging consumers to take unlimited flights,” he added.

The scheme is supposedly a way for Wizz Air to claw back their money and reputation, after they were named the worst for flight delays in June. As well as this, they had to fork out a whopping £1.2m to customers in compensation in January over disruptions and delays.
