‘King of Benidorm’ points stark warning to Brits over seedy ‘English Square’
The ‘King of Benidorm’ issued a stark warning to all Brits planning to visit the Costa Blanca hotspot.
TikTok star and barman Nigel Pope is originally from Cornwall but earned his title thanks to his legendary tours of the city – and bubbly personality.
The 63-year-old, who has lived abroad for seven years now, has shared some of his top tips for British tourists to make sure they “stay out of trouble”, as reported by The Express. And revealed what the infamous ‘English Square’ is really like.

He warned party-revellers to never “leave yourself on your own” as dangerous people are looking to “take advantage” of those who get detached from their friends and family.
He said: “The easiest way to stay out of trouble is to make sure you’re not paralytically drunk on your own.
“If you are going to get drunk, which obviously is going to happen in Benidorm, then you have to stay together as a group. Don’t ever leave yourself on your own.”
The social media star, who has thousands of TikTok followers, also said it is best to leave your valuables at home – especially when heading to the well-known “English Square”.
He added: “Don’t take too much out with you at night. If you’re going out, just take enough cash. You don’t need a lot.
“Stay in well-lit areas basically. You can see where most people are and [are] going.”
The tour guide said he earned his moniker as the city’s unofficial King as he is “the first and original Tiktoker guide in Benidorm”. Mr Pope said a lot of people come to visit him at work and others recognise him “all the time.”
Recently speaking to Daily Star, Nigel revealed that he thinks more Brits will move to Benidorm in order to get their hands on cheap pints and cigarettes.
His insight comes after the UK government’s proposed ban on smoking in pub gardens, amongst other public areas. In a chat with us, Nigel exclusively shared: “I don’t understand what is going on in the UK! Are they trying to stop people going to the pubs? It’s crazy.
“I definitely think it will make more Brits think about travelling or even moving abroad, especially to Benidorm as it’s cheaper to live here with pints from €1 and tobacco is very cheap.
“A packet of 20 cigarettes here is from €4.50 and a pack of 50g tobacco from €13.00. Most bars have outside terraces with covers, if need be, to cater for smokers as many people here do smoke and even in winter it’s not too cold to sit outside.”
