Slot spells out Ten Hag tactical flaws and tells everybody methods to beat Man Utd

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has revealed three major flaws in Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United side after their 3-0 thumping at Old Trafford.

The Reds’ boss was all smiles as his team maintained their flawless record in the Premier League. Luis Diaz bagged a brace and Mohamed Salah sealed the victory with Liverpool‘s third against a lacklustre United midfield.

Casemiro was replaced by debutant Toby Collyer at half-time after a dismal display and in a post-match interview, Slot dissected Ten Hag‘s strategy, pointing out the change in United’s pressing game which has seen them slump to two losses in three matches this season.

He pinpointed the Red Devils’ attacking full-backs as a defensive weakness, and stressed the importance of combative midfielders who can dominate one-on-one battles.

Slot said: “Last season, there were man marking on the midfield, and they had a press with the seven and 11 (the wingers). So with the striker, and one of the wingers jumped with him,” reports the Mirror.

Arne Slot
Arne Slot spoke to Sky Sports after the win

“This season, they are more with a 9 and 10 press, so they’re more in a 4-4-2. So that’s different, of course. I see them, in my opinion, working harder if the ball is being played through them, so they run more. That’s at least what I saw in their first games.

“Their style is also – this is maybe last season, I don’t remember that well – but their full-backs, nine out of 10 times, are really high, and then Casemiro comes in between. So, if you pick up the ball and you can keep Diaz and Mo Salah high, then you’re constantly in a one-on-one situation.

“Then you need midfielders that can run, and we had three of them today that kept running, and if they arrive in a duel, they are aggressive enough to win it. So that was, I think, one of the main reasons why we could win today.”

Ten Hag
Erik ten Hag was dismayed by the defeat

Ten Hag cut a frustrated figure after full-time, he said: “It’s quite simple. We were in the game. It was equal after half an hour then we made two big mistakes and Liverpool took them really well,” the United manager told Sky Sports.

“It was good finishes and they were very clinical. When you are 2-0 down against Liverpool, they are very dynamic. We brought someone on with legs. We tried to get it to 2-1. We had the shot with Joshua Zirkzee that could have done that, then we made another mistake.

Mo Salah
Mohamed Salah scored Liverpool’s third with a sharp finish

“It was a really clinical finish from Mohamed Salah. I have to credit this and compliment Liverpool on how they finish. They were great goals. It’s individual quality. Liverpool have great players but I think we have such players as well.”

Next up for United is a trip to St Mary’s to face Southampton, with Liverpool welcoming Nottingham Forest to Anfield after the international break.
