Luke Littler cries in darts ultimate loss as ‘distraught’ star shares heartbreak
Luke Littler was visibly moved after his defeat to Peter Wright in the German Darts Championship final.
The 17-year-old sensation had a promising start, leading 5-2 against Wright but eventually succumbed to an 8-5 loss after Wright managed to pull off six straight wins. He was seen in tears on the stage.
Post-match, an overwhelmed Littler paid tribute to a close friend named Ellis, who has just gone through the devastating loss of his dad. While lauding Wright for his stellar performance, he couldn’t hold back his emotions.

Littler said: “Fair play to Peter, he’s played well all weekend and so have I. I’ve got to take it on the chin.
“I have got to give a massive shout out to my friend Ellis. He lost his dad I’ve known him since I was three or four.”
Later, taking to Instagram, Littler shared a heart-touching snap of himself with Ellis, admitting: “Not looking for sympathy or anything, I was just trying to say how my best mate has lost his dad at such a young age,” reports the Express.
“I’ve known Ellis since we was both three, four and it’s been on my mind all week. [He’s] the strongest lad I know and I just couldn’t get the job done as I would [have] liked.”
Before facing off against Wright in the nail-biting final, Littler had claimed victory over Ryan Searle, Damon Heta, and Daryl Gurney. His initial momentum in the final saw him dominate the first three legs and win two of the subsequent four, putting him upfront with a 5-2 score.
Nonetheless, Wright made a spectacular comeback, sweeping five consecutive legs to snatch an impressive 8-5 win from Littler’s grasp. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “I just kept believing in myself. Luke is a fantastic dart player and he was blowing me off the board with 180s, but I thought if I could keep with him, I might get back into it.
“This means a lot to me. Luke is distraught because he wants to win. He’s a fighter, he’s a winner, and he’ll be back and beating us all again soon.”
