Arsenal star admits Chelsea ‘trophy’ distinction and Arteta modified ‘mentality’

Jorginho has admitted there’s a mentality difference between Arsenal and Chelsea – and it’s all thanks to Mikel Arteta.

The Italian, 32, swapped the Blues for the Gunners in 2023, and he’s now twice finished second in the Premier League under Arteta. And he’s now opened up on how Arteta has changed the culture in North London.

Speaking on the Seaman Says podcast via Betway, Jorginho said: “The only thing I can talk about is when Mikel is here. At Chelsea, in any context, any situation, Chelsea would get a trophy.

“Whatever it was – Carabao Cup, FA Cup, Premier League, Champions League, Europa League – something to take home. It didn’t happen at Arsenal before, but the mentality now is different because you can see the hunger of wanting to win.

“Sometimes it doesn’t work out but the willingness and the hard work is there. The way you train every day, the information you have – even the pictures on the walls at the training ground, everything in that atmosphere is about winning.

“It’s really good because [Mikel] put up all these messages that you see there. It gets into your mind when you see it again and again, and you start to believe it. You go in and see that every day and then you get into the habit. It’s really good because you have the motivation, and all we want to do is win.

“The history of Arsenal is so big that everyone knows about it. It’s just not possible to not know about it.

“And this mentality is back now so we just need to keep working the way we are doing. Of course, the expectation is quite high from all of us because who doesn’t want to win? We work so hard, so why not to expect and want to do that?”
