Man dies after getting ‘trapped below forklift’ in horror industrial accident

A man has tragically died after being trapped under a forklift truck at a business site.

The horrifying incident occurred on Station Road, in Birmingham, near the junction with Summer Road and Short Heath Road in Erdington on Today (September 17). The man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency services were alerted to the “industrial incident” just after 10am. Ambulances and police cars sped to the scene following reports that a man in his 50s was trapped under a forklift truck.

Despite the best efforts of police and ambulance medics, the man could not be saved, according to the police. Photos reveal the business yard on Station Road, Erdington, was cordoned off following the incident with police officers continuing their investigations.

An inquiry has been launched to find out how the horror accident happened and the Health and Safety Executive has been notified. A small cordon remains at the premises this afternoon, but traffic has not been affected.

Police are still on the scene investigating the circumstances of the tragic incident, which happened opposite the Red Lion pub.

As reported by the Mirror, police said in a statement: “We were called to reports of a man trapped under a forklift truck at a premises on Station Road, Erdington at around 10.14am this morning (September 17). A man believed to be his 50s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries to establish exactly what happened are ongoing and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.”

A spokesperson for the ambulance service told BirminghamLive, how they couldn’t save the man, despite their best efforts. They said: “We were called to an industrial incident on Station Road at 10.11am, two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one patient, a man. Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

People have flooded social media with messages of condolence, with one user noting: “So terribly said,” while another added: “Rest in peace x thinking of family and friends.”
