Anthony Joshua particulars why he lives together with his mum regardless of monumental internet price
Anthony Joshua may have floored the world’s heaviest hitters, yet he still crashes at his mum’s pad.
Aged 34, AJ is gearing up for Saturday’s IBF heavyweight title scrap against Daniel ‘DDD’ Dubois at Wembley – a clash that could set him on the path to boxing immortality with victory. Despite once boasting an armoury of titles that included the WBC International, Commonwealth, British, IBF, WBA (Super), WBO, and IBO belts, Joshua has been off the championship radar since losing to Oleksandr Usyk back in 2021.
Should Joshua send 27-year-old Dubois packing with the IBF belt in tow, he’s in line for a shot at total ring domination, unifying all four prestigious straps against either Usyk or Tyson Fury after their much-anticipated December rematch. Of late, Joshua’s been clocking up serious mileage training overseas in preparation for these pivotal punch-ups.

This jet-setting lifestyle, as AJ explained on Good Morning Britain, is precisely why he’s yet to leave his dear mum Yeta’s home. He said: “I still live with my mum. I realised that when I started training – which I do away from home a lot – that if I’m away for 10 months of the year and then when I get back I’ve got to do commercial work I realise that if I was to move out I’d never actually see my mum.
“I’m away in various parts of the world for a lot of the time, but my actual base is at home with mum. So I can still wake up and see her and spend time with her when I can,” reports the Mirror. GMB co-host Susanna Reid was charmed by AJ’s admission, replying: “That is so lovely. That is just like the tender heart of someone who is about to go into a ring and try and knock someone out.”
AJ also let slip during their chit-chat that his mum finds it too nerve-wracking to watch him compete in the ring, revealing: “Sometimes she doesn’t show up, she stays behind and she prays a lot. She says she can’t really watch her son because she doesn’t enjoy it. It’s tough for her, of course, but she enjoys the fruits of her labour. I take care of my mum a lot, I love her dearly.”
With an impressive financial knockout thanks to his boxing success and sizzling brand endorsements, Joshua isn’t short on options when it comes to picking lavish pads across the globe. Forbes estimates that AJ’s bank balance boasts a jaw-dropping $83 million (£63.5m), with some of his fights grossing colossal sums. His 2022 rematch against Oleksandr Usyk alone bagged him a whopping $75 million (£57.4m), while his victory over Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019 saw him cash in a cool $72 million (£55.1m).
