Driver fled UK for 4 years after leaving bicycle owner lifeless in hit-and-run jailed
A heartless driver who fled the UK for four years after leaving a cyclist fatally injured in a hit-and-run, captured on chilling CCTV, has been jailed.
The shocking footage shows Andell Goulbourne, 59, being flung 100ft (30m) through the air after being struck by Kashif Khan, 28, in Saltley, Birmingham.
The father-of-three was hit by the grey BMW M135i coming from the opposite direction on Washwood Heath Road at around 11pm on July 30, 2020. Despite paramedics’ best efforts, the volunteer charity worker was pronounced dead at the scene while Khan made his escape.

Khan hastily bought a one-way ticket to Dubai and flew out of the country just four hours later, remaining on the run for four years. Meanwhile, detectives were able to establish that he had been driving the car using fingerprints from a drinks can left in the vehicle and a discarded receipt.
In an attempt to track down his killer, his family previously released footage showing how Andell was sent flying along the street by the impact of the collision.
Khan, from Erdington, Birmingham, was arrested upon his return to the UK on July 2 this year. He pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and was sentenced to six years in prison at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday (Thursday).
Khan has also been banned from driving for nearly 13 years.

In a heart-wrenching statement following the tragic crash, Mr Goulbourne’s family paid tribute to the father of three, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, calling him a “kind and generous individual, a mentor to many young people.”
They continued: “He always sought to serve those less fortunate, this was reflected in his role as a volunteer charity worker. He was a beacon of light.”
During the court proceedings before Khan’s sentencing, Mr Goulbourne’s relatives shared how his loss had created a ‘huge void in many people’s lives – especially ours’.
Their statement read: “Our lives changed forever upon hearing the news that our dad had passed away, and losing such a significant loved one left us in total disbelief with feelings of unbearable grief.”
“We will always feel the pain of losing someone so treasured as our dad, however here we are today when despite our anguish we stand to be given some sort of justice and closure.”

Post-sentencing, Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes from West Midlands Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit expressed hope: “We can only hope that this sentence now, brings some comfort to Mr Goulbourne’s family.”
He added: “Mr Goulbourne was callously left in the road fatally injured by this driver who was more concerned about trying to evade responsibility for his actions than try to help man he’d hit.”
“He went so far as to leave the country within hours of this awful collision and remained away for years, but as soon as he tried to come back we were ready and able to bring him before the courts and see him admit the charge.”
