Flood warnings throughout England as a month’s value of rain may fall

The Met Office has issued a series of points detailing what people should expect from today’s weather.

• Spray and flooding probably leading to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
• Homes and businesses may be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
• Delays and some cancellations to train and bus services are likely
• A possibility that some communities will be cut off by flooded roads
• Power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses likely

The Met Office has issued a further update on the amber and yellow weather warnings in place across the UK today.

It appears the amber warning has shifted slightly towards the south of England.

Now, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Reading, Bath and Gloucester could see heavier rainfall compared to the likes of Birmingham and Hull.

As heavy rainfall continues to batter parts of the country, let’s take a look at some of the pictures we have been sent in.

First off, a truck and cyclist were seen trying to navigate their way through a section of partially flooded road in Colliers Wood in South West London.

Earlier this morning, a car could be seen submerged beneath the water in Essex.

Meanwhile, Londoners on their commute to work braved the bad weather using umbrellas to shield themselves.

As of now, 11 flood warnings are in place in areas including Langford, Luton, Leighton Buzzard and South Ruslip.

However, 75 flood alerts have been issued across the UK in areas where flooding is ‘possible’.

In the last 24 hours, 32 flood warnings have been removed, but it still remains to be seen what the number will be later today.

Tomorrow is expected to bring longer spells of rain to northern areas and parts of Scotland whereas much of the south, Wales and the Midlands should see a largely dry day.

Four London Underground lines were reported to be part-suspended today due to flooding this morning.

The Bakerloo, District, Metropolitan and Piccadilly – in addition to the Overground – have all been affected by the heavy rainfall.

Wet and windy weather is also expected from Wednesday and it will be cooler too, with daytime highs of just 14C (57F) in London by Saturday.

While most of England and Wales have been put under a yellow weather warning, areas across Worcester, Birmingham, Nottingham and Hull have been put under an amber one.

The Met Office has warned that heavy rain could bring ‘flooding and disruption’ across the country.

It follows a brief period of sunshine and heat earlier this week as summer nears to an end.
