William Saliba despatched off as Arsenal star to overlook large Premier League title conflict

Arsenal’s William Saliba has been sent off in their match against Bournemouth after denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity for bringing down Evanilson.

The Gunners were looking dominant in the early stages of the game but a wayward pass from Trossard left Saliba in no man’s land before he brought down Evanilson who was through on goal.

It’s the first time in 93 games for Arsenal that he’s been given a red card but he can have no complaints. After a card wasn’t initially shown, referee Jarred Gillett was instructed to head to the monitor by VAR and was quick to send the defender off.

It was a huge gamble given how far the Bournemouth player was away from the Arsenal goal, but it would’ve been hard for Saliba to recover in time so he decided to take him down.

The mistake could prove costly if Mikel Arteta’s side don’t go on to win the game as they look to overtake Liverpool and go top of the Premier League table.
