New information reveals Britons’ favorite pint – and the outcomes are sudden

A new study researching the drinking habits of Britons has shown the nation’s favourite beer – and it’s San Miguel.

The survey found that 61% of Brits ranked it as their favourite, when asked about a variety of options. The Spanish lager is brewed by American company AB InBev.

The second favourite option was a close contender. Guinness raked in 53% while Kopparberg, Thatchers Gold and Strongbow all reached 51% in the polls. Millenials, born between 1980-1994, rated Kopparberg number one. That was followed by Corona and Birra Moretti.

San Miguel was the best for Generation X, born between 1965-1980, as well as baby boomers, 1946-1964. YouGov’s provided the data, which claims to be the ‘boldest’ attempt to show what Brits really think.

The survey reviewed 164 different well-known brands and asked people between July and September to share their opinions. The result was a percentage based on how many people had a positive thing to say about the drink.

For a combined score of all adults, the following beers and ciders also ranked in the top 10: Bulmers, Magners (50%), Corona (48%), Stella Artois (47%) and Budweiser (46%).

In terms of the lowest, Bud Light Platinum, Chimay, and Bellerose ranked in at 11%. Foam Brewers, LaBatte Blue and Founders had a score of 6%, Hitachino at 7%, and Heverlee at 8%.

Online gambling site Slotswide also conducted its own study which found that San Miguel was the UK’s favourite beer. With it being Brit’s first choice for a pint, the brewery has also picked up a huge profit.

Based in multiple countries, but most notably the Philippines, the brewery made 147.3 billion Philippine pesos (£1.9billion) at the end of the 2023 financial year, according to Statista. The survey also highlighted that non-British beers seem most popular with punters.

Heineken’s 2024 Beer Report last month showed their lager was the most popular in pubs. Spanish lagers such as Cruzcampo and Italian lager Peroni were also well up there, with the ‘world beers’ making up a whopping 28% of the UK pub trade.

Some call this the ‘Madri effect’ after the beer became the most popular in 2022, just two years after its initial release.
